Objective

Learning outcomes: Having completed the study unit, the student should be able to - recognize and define central concepts and theoretical basics in cognitive linguistics - to explain and interpret central research results in cognitive linguistics and give examples of them - to classify linguistics data according to the principles of cognitive linguistics and explain the rationale behind this classification - use the basic notions of cognitive linguistics in linguistic analysis, explicate research results with respect to these notions and apply the methods and principles of cognitive in the analysis of linguistic data - realize a small-scale research project in some special field of cognitive linguistics and report the results of this project The course develops the following work life skills: Language skills, meaning-making, argumentation skills, managing large entities, systematic thinking, time management and prioritization, self-management Generic competences: digitalization, ethics, leadership and development, internationality, sustainability and responsibility, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise, interaction and development

Content

During the course, the student will become familiar with the basic concepts, theoretical foundations and main research orientations of cognitive linguistics and apply the basic concepts and principles of cognitive linguistics to linguistic analysis in practice. The course requires studying the required material independently. During the course, the student will complete various learning tasks, one of which is an individual, small-scale research project under teacher’s supervision; its topic is agreed upon separately, and the student reports the results of the project in a research report that contains at least 1500 words.

Independent web course.

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: The course will be taken as an independent web course, which contains various learning tasks and an independent research project under teacher’s supervision. The course requires 135 hours of independent work. To access the course platform, the student must sign up for the course and contact the responsible teacher. Evaluation criteria: The weighted average of the learning tasks.
