Content
This unit is optional. It aims to provide the student with a concrete experience of the use of the English language in an Anglophone culture and a personal awareness of the way of life in an English-speaking setting. The study unit can be completed by working, studying or staying in an Anglophone country or setting for at least six weeks. A period of study exceeding the minimum requirement is particularly recommendable. The credits for the study can also be awarded on the basis of residence that has taken place before one’s studies. Instead of a six-week residence, it also possible to fulfil the requirement by participating in a university-level language, culture and literature course abroad that lasts for four weeks. It is also possible to fulfill the requirement by studying English (and/or other relevant subjects) abroad through the university’s exchange programs, or working abroad in an international organization whose language of communication is English. After the residence the student needs to submit a short report in English and the relevant documentation (e.g. passport, flight tickets, course certificate, certificate of employment). The report should not exceed 2 pages and it should discuss the student’s experience of residence in a foreign culture with particular reference to working life skills No formal criteria for the report have been set but it should clearly state where the student has been and the period of residence abroad as well as the arranging organization if relevant. NB! The course can also be taken as an advanced-level optional course.
