Objective

Learning outcomes: A successful student - is able to write an academic thesis on a topic relevant in the chosen field - masters the basic communicative skills in the chosen field The course develops the following work life skills: Meaning making, creativity, time management and prioritisation, argumentation skills, systematic thinking, managing large entities, research skills and critical thinking, IT skills (Office) Generic competences: digitalization, ethics, leadership and development, internationality, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise, interaction and communication

Content

The compulsory BA Thesis is based on the research work presented in the Bachelor’s seminar, which is revised as instructed. The length of the BA Thesis is about 5000-6000 words (c. 20 pages). The BA Thesis is submitted to the teacher in charge of the Bachelor’s Seminar course. Before the Thesis is assessed, its originality must be tested by running it through the Turnitin program. The student will attach a 1-page Finnish abstract to the Thesis; the abstract form is available at students’ web portal Kamu.

The Finnish abstract attached to the BA Thesis serves as the required Maturity Test (see 2110031 Maturity Test in Finnish (BA) or 2110033 Maturity Test in Swedish (BA) (0 cp)) written in the student’s first language (usually Finnish or Swedish).

Accomplishment methods

Modes of study: Personal supervision and independent study (162h). Evaluation criteria: Written thesis. Prior learning will not be recognized or accredited for this study unit.
