Objective

Learning outcomes: Students should learn to - recognize change and development in American culture and society; - understand some of the complexities and problematics as well as creativity permeating the past and present in American multicultural society; - become sensitive about socio-cultural dissimilarity (ethnicity, race, gender, class), and understand difference The course develops the following work life skills: - Language skills, multidisciplinarity, socio-cultural knowledge and competencies related to a specific country, basic research skills, meaning-making, time management and prioritization skills Generic competences: internationality, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise

Content

This multidisciplinary course will introduce students to some of the main events and trends in the history, culture, and society of the United States; it will help them understand change in the socio-political and cultural context, and examine ways in which American identity may be defined.
