Objective

Learning outcomes: At the end of the course the student will • understand the role of English as the present-day world language • recognise some current trends in English research • know a few key questions in empirical research in English • be able to name some key methods and material The course develops the following work life skills: Language skills, multidisciplinarity, knowledge of socio-cultural contexts related to specific countries, meaning-making, time management and prioritisation Generic competences: ethics, internationality, critical thinking, identification and development of expertise, interaction and communication

Content

The course consists of lectures that introduce the students with research-based information of the English language in today’s society. The course topics deal with English as the world language today, and they showcase how research in the English language can offer various ways to tackle some of the current and global challenges.
