Objective
After completing the course, the student will:be able to use ethnographic research methods in the narrow and broad sense know the life cycle of archival material and the structure of archival institutionsbe able to apply methods to workplace contextsbe aware of the significance of the researcher’s role andbe confident applying research ethics, good scientific practice, knowledge management and permissions procedures.
Content
Content From a humanities perspective, the course covers ethnographic research methods, data collections, archival material life-cycle management and research ethics. The course includes data collection for an oral history project and a visit to an archive in Helsinki. Completion methods Taught course (major students) or independent work (book exam, reading group or assignment). Assessment criteria 80% participation in teaching and written assignments or lecture exam. Completion by independent study – essay or book exam.
