Objective

Upon completion of the course, the student knows in theory and in practice novel industrial applications of chemistry. Student understands and is able to analyze the role of fundamental chemistry in these industrial applications.

Content

During the course, recent industrial applications of chemistry are reviewed. These include e.g. chemistry in mining industry and in chemical industry. Especially, energy storage materials and metal refining are considered. Further, bioeconomy and circular economy processes, such as catalytic applications in water purification, preparation of biofuels and materials from biomass, and hydrogen economy are studied. Overall, the increasing role of inorganic circular economy in material chemistry, and in the utilization of waste and side streams are studied.
