Objective

On this course you will learn about the Finnish lifestyle, art, and culture and the way in which they have shaped the Finnish mentality and society.

Having completed the course you will
1) have a deeper understanding of Finnish culture, art, and lifestyle
2) be able to analyse and make comparisons between Finnish culture and your own.

Content

The themes are chosen according to the students’ own interests. Group discussions based on presentations, articles, and essays.

You have the possibility to concentrate on one or two areas of art (literature, architecture, fine art, music, cinema, Sámi art, etc.).

Qualifications

You are better off if you have completed the course XFIN0226 Structures of Standard Written Finnish.

Further information

Teaching of Finnish as a foreign language.

Execution methods

Independent work, lectures, group work, visits, and presentations by the students. The main emphasis is on your independent studying. You can also complete the culture part by writing an essay or in the Moodle. The material is agreed on beforehand with the teacher.

Accomplishment methods

Active participation in the exercises, making a presentation.
