Objective
Upon successful completion of the course, the doctoral candidate will:- be familiar with funding opportunities in Finland for doctoral research- know how to put together a funding application, CV, research plan and budget- know how to make a data management plan and be familiar with the relevant ethical considerations and copyright and openness issues- know how to put together a communication plan for his/her research- be familiar with different publication options, be able to choose the most appropriate one and understand its significance for the visibility and impact of the publication and be familiar with the aims of and options for the openness of publications- know what tools are available for measuring the impact of publications- be familiar with the principal international researcher identifiers and social media tools for researchers.
Content
The course comprises lectures as well as group and individual tasks dealing with the following:- putting together a funding application and research plan- putting together a data management plan- choosing publication channels and self-archiving- science communication- bibliometrics and altmetrics

Execution methods
A one- or two-page research plan for the participant’s thesis(advance assignment). Two full days (one week apart) of lectures and group discussions. Two assignments for the intervening week: revision of the research plan for purposes of the funding application, writing of a data management and communication plans.
Accomplishment methods
Active participation in the lectures and discussions, completion of course assignments.
