Objective
Having successfully completed the course, the student
1) has acquired knowledge of different aspects of Italian culture and way of life
2) is familiar with the most relevant facts concerning Italian language, history, geography, artistic and cultural heritage and society
3) has acquired deeper knowledge of aspects of Italian culture related to their own field of studies.
Content
The theme of the course is “A Journey to Italy”: the course will lead you to a journey through different aspects of Italian culture and encourage you to compare your knowledge and opinions about the country and its people with your course mates in a multicultural atmosphere.
The course consists of three study units:
1) My portrait of Italy. The module aims at encouraging reflection and discussion on student’s previous knowledge, thoughts and opinions of Italian culture. The students will analyse the elements that build their own “portrait of Italy”.
2) Italy: Facts and figures. The module provides general, factual information about Italian language, history, geography, artistic and cultural heritage and society.
3) Italian culture and my field of studies. In this module, each student (or group of students) will have the opportunity to examine a topic of their choice that is related to Italian culture and relevant to their own field of studies.

Pass/fail
Assessment is based on
1) attending the contact teaching sessions (min. 80%)
2) active participation in the online course and completion of tasks and activities in the Moodle workspace.
Execution methods
The course mostly consists of independent work online on the Moodle workspace. The contact teaching sessions are meant for questions and discussion. All course material, tasks and activities are on the Moodle workspace.
Accomplishment methods
Attending the contact teaching sessions, 12 h. Completing the activities of the three modules on Moodle (group discussions, short article reviews, comments, quizzes), 69 h.
