Objective

After successfully completing the course, the doctoral researcher will:
- understand the content and execution of effective presentations
- have established a foundation from which to give effective presentations and develop their individual presentation style
- be practiced at giving constructive feedback on presentations.

Content

The course aims to cultivate effective academic presentation skills and to develop participants’ confidence and presentation style. Doctoral researchers will practice communicating their research ideas in English to an academic audience. This will be achieved through exploring what makes a good presentation while considering the needs of an international audience, practicing giving presentations, and giving and receiving feedback on presentations.

Qualifications

The course is arranged for doctoral researchers at the University of Lapland.

Execution methods

This interactive participation-based course takes a dialogic approach; it includes exercises, discussions, giving presentations and active involvement in the feedback process. The course takes place in ten three-hour sessions.

Accomplishment methods

To successfully complete the course, the participant needs to actively participate in lessons, feedback sessions, and presentations. Participants will be required to prepare and deliver several presentations of different lengths.
