Chinese Language (5cr)

Objective

Introduce the basic knowledge of Chinese language and related culture issues.

By completing the course students
- have basic knowledge of communicating in every-day life
- learn to use simple forms of courtesy- are able to utilize most commonly used words and phrases
- understand how Chinese characters are formed (the parts of characters)
- can read basic texts and to compose short texts by typing the characters on electronic devices.
- familiarize with language related culture phenomena especially in business field.
- are able to make self-introductions, tell and ask time and date, order food and drinks, ask directions and make appointments, etc.

Content

The course covers from pronunciation, grammar to listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. And the course will mainly focuses on accumulating the most important vocabulary and expressions needed in daily used situations, practicing speech comprehension, basic knowledge about Chinese character writing and typing, as well as language related culture issues.

Qualifications

No previous studies required.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

Grades 1-5/fail
(The teacher will inform the evaluation method of the course).

Study material will be delivered to students before and during the classes.

Execution methods

Independent work, work in pairs and small groups and in/after-class exercises (36h).

Regular attendance, active participation in in-class exercises and self-study after class are required to complete the course. Final exam.
