Objective

Upon completing this module, the student should be able to discuss in depth various questions related to international refugee and asylum law.

Content

The international legal framework for refugee protection and asylum, including the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees; criteria for the attainment, denial, and withdrawal of refugee status; different forms of protection; the non-refoulement principle; relevant international, regional and national jurisprudence; the UNHCR etc.

Written examination (A) OR a lecture / seminar course (B).

Accomplishment methods

A) The exam yields 2 ECTS. It must be taken as an e-exam in the electrical EXAM service. The literature to be studied is pages 35–289 of Migration and International Human Rights Law: A Practitioners' Guide, Updated Edition (International Commission of Jurists, 2014). The exam consists of two essay questions. You will have four hours to answer them.
