Objective

In his / her research and development activities, the student is able to evaluate and apply existing knowledge in solving practical problems and developing new types of solutions. He / she is able to anticipate the future of his / her professional field, changes in the operating environments, and the effects of global development and phenomena. He/she is able to justify the needs of development activities and define goals based on sustainable solutions.

Competencies focused on the study unit are: Learning to learn, proactive development, sustainable development, foresight and development skills.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1)

0: The student does not participate in the course or he/she doesn´t meet the minimum requirements for course approval.

1-2: The student
- is able to justify his / her competence with individual examples in relation to concepts of goal-oriented development work.
- recognizes the link between proactive development and sustainable development in the learning task.
- describes the methods he/she uses, provides examples for his arguments, and highlights individual conclusions by using reliable references.

Assessment criteria, good (3)

3-4: The student
- justifies his / her own competence with the help of concepts related to goal-oriented development work and recognizes his / her own strengths and areas for development.
- experiments with new methods to apply the related concepts to proactive and sustainable development in the learning task.
- analyzes his/her choices by mirroring reliable references and by drawing logical conclusions in his/her learning task.

Note! During the Spring semester 2024, expert lectures will be organized, which will bring new perspectives to foresighting and development and thus strengthen your know-how. Attending the lectures is voluntary, but highly recommended. More detailed schedules will be announced after each lecture is confirmed.

Teaching methods

The study unit is implemented as online studies. The study unit includes virtual contacts according to the given schedule.
The teaching in the study unit is based on co-educational pedagogy and it is implemented in Finnish and in English. Learning assignments are done individually or in a small group. It is possible to complete the studies in either Finnish or in English.
