Objective

You are familiar with surgical/perioperative patient care and service chains as well as evidence-based national and international care recommendations and guidelines.
You know how to provide evidence-based surgical and perioperative patient treatment and care as well as patient guidance using rehabilitative nursing methods.
You know how to conduct the reporting and documentation related to surgical nursing.
You know how to systematically assess patients’ condition in surgical/perioperative nursing.
You know how to provide medicinal, fluid and nutritional treatment to surgical and perioperative patients using different routes of administration, and you are familiar with the stages of blood transfusion.
You can identify, assess and treat the pain of a surgical patient.
You are familiar with the principles of surgical wound care and know how to provide surgical patient wound care. You know how to use various medical devices as well as digital applications and solutions in surgical patient care.

Radiation safety: (0.5 cr shared with internal medicine patient care)
You can communicate about medical, occupational and population exposure to radiation at a general level and interpret radiation risks. You can communicate the quality and magnitude of radiation exposure in daily work and interpret radiation risks. You understand the general radiation protection principles and can apply them in practice. You know how to use procedures designed to optimise the protection of employees.

-Most common surgical diseases and their pathophysiology as well as evidence-based care for surgical diseases
-Most important surgical nursing clinical examinations and assessment of patients’ condition

-Surgical patient medicinal treatment and clinical pharmacology
-Peripheral and central venous cannulae Parenteral medicinal, fluid therapy and nutritional treatment and blood transfusion
-Medical devices and device safety
-Radiation safety 0.5 cr

You can identify surgical/perioperative patient care and service chains as well as evidence-based national and international care recommendations and guidelines.
You can define evidence-based surgical and perioperative patient treatment and care as well as patient guidance. You can name rehabilitative nursing methods in surgical patient care. You know how to conduct the reporting and documentation related to surgical nursing under supervision.
You know how to carry out surgical/perioperative patient assessments. You know how to provide medicinal, fluid and nutritional treatment to surgical and perioperative patients using different routes of administration and carry out a blood transfusion in stages.
You are able to identify surgical patients’ pain and provide evidence-based pain treatment.
You are able to define the principles of surgical wound care and use evidence-based knowledge when providing surgical patient wound care.
You know how to use various medical devices as well as digital applications and solutions in surgical patient care.
You have successfully completed the course on radiation safety (0.5 cr).

You know how to systematically carry out surgical/perioperative patient assessments and draw conclusions based on them. You know how to provide and assess medicinal, fluid and nutritional treatment to surgical and perioperative patients using different routes of administration and carry out a blood transfusion in stages, explaining why it is carried out.
