- to understand the methods used in sociology and social policy to examine and to describe society, its structures and development
- to describe the social policy system behind the work and professions in the field of social services

- to study the activities of people, communities and societies with the tools of critical philosophical thinking
- to understand how and on what kind of values society should be organised to enable people to strive towards a good life
